Animal Success Stories
Miss Daisy was a puppymill rescue last year. When she first came into the rescue you could see the pain in her eyes but once she came home with me I was going to just foster her until her forever home was found, but she found it the first night she was with us. She has brought us so many laughs, from her blowing on you to move you out of her way, to her frantics with learning to be a puppy (she is just an old puppy - 7 years young). She took about 2 weeks to adjust to home life but then she became quite the little lady playing with all the toys. She was a little upset when she couldn't make them squeek (she has only three teeth in the front) but I found some that were softer for her so she was delighted. She plays with all toys now, slinging her moose she can even toss above her head. She also enjoys playing with both of my other dogs. Spike is a little Rat Terrier, but Miss Daisy is even smaller than he is. They love to wrestle and play. Shadow is our Black Lab and she too gets in on the fun with Miss Daisy.

She loves her blanket in the livingroom. She will lay on it from morning to night but when I get home from work she is ready to eat then play. She likes going for car rides, she will just sit on the seat next to you and sleep. She knows that when we take her somewhere she will be coming back home again. She likes to have visitors at "her" house as well.

She accepts everything that comes her way. She likes to take a shower with you and get all pretty and clean. After bath time she will go back in and jump up on the tub and look in. I guess for 7 years of being dirty she likes the idea of bath time. She allows us to give her a hair cut about once a month.

She is a good watch dog she will bark if someone comes up to the door. She likes walking on a leash, she just tries so hard to do all the right things. She knows her boundaries in the yard and when she finishes running around she will come back to the side door and wait for you to let her in.

The only thing she still is not used to is the thunder when it storms and the water hose. She is getting much better about both but I guess her experiences in her years of puppymilling and being exposed to all types of weather and them hosing the cages out with them in there will take a little more time for her to get over that scare.

Miss Daisy is one of the reasons rescue organizations are so very valuable. Without the rescue work I wonder where she would have gone.

Update on Miss Daisy who is now a celebrity (we always knew it but now it is official). Go to www.dogster.com and you can see her picture. She was chosen to be on a poster promoting the movie "The Year of the Dog" she was one of 365 dogs chosen.

Spring
Spring

Spring came into rescue from a puppymil. From the poor nutrition she received as a puppy her bones were not as strong as they should have been and she broke a leg that was eventually amputated. She is doing fine and has since found her forever home in VA with a very nice family. You can see her pictured with her newest best buddy Alex.

Sylvester found a loving, comfy home to settle down in.

DOLLY
DOLLY

Dolly was found wondering in the Kenton County area about two months ago. She was microchipped with a Home Again chip, so the shelter proceeded to try and track down her family, but they had no luck. The information on the Home Again database had not been updated, and the family had since moved. The shelter tried a few more time to track them down, but finally had to give up. They kept "Dolly" (whose name we kept because it was fitting) in the shelter, and waited for her to be scooped up... but no one ever took her home. My husband, Keith, and I were searching for a family dog on Petfinder.com, and we ran across Dolly's picture. I read the information and saw that she was an urgent case, and I started crying; I couldn't let that poor baby be put down. No way. Initially, my husband and I decided we would foster Dolly, because we thought we already had found the dog we wanted. However, when we went to pull Dolly from the shelter, there was an immediate connection. She was so sweet, and well behaved! She even jumped directly into the backseat of our truck with no hesitation. We got her home, and found only more wonderful things about her. First, she's 100% housebroken. She has not had one single accident, and she whines when she needs to go outside. We don't even have to keep her in a crate overnight or while we're in bed... she doesn't chew either, so she's completely trustworthy. We also found that she has basic obedience down. She knows sit, down, shake, heel, and stay. She's good on a leash, she's great with other dogs, she's great with our 7 week old son, and she rarely barks. The only negative I can think of is she is scared of going into the kitchen. I don't know if it's because she seems to slide a little on the lenolium, or if she was maybe locked in a kitchen where she used to live... because she cries and cries when we go in there and she wants to follow. We had to move her food to the doorway between the kitchen and family room... but she's getting better about going in there. We'll get her to be okay with it eventually, I'm sure! We have no idea why no one claimed this beautiful girl, or why in the world no one would want to keep her as their own. She's the perfect dog! Yes, she has a broken tooth, and had fleas... but what's the big deal? We treated her with Frontline for the fleas, so they are now gone... she's had her teeth cleaned, and she's being groomed on Saturday... she's gorgeous, inside and out! We're lucky to have found her and to have her in our home.
